BURLINGTON, MA (August 30, 2005) -- Scientists and engineers will be gathering for the first-ever worldwide series of meetings dedicated to the topic of multiphysics modeling and simulation. On October 23-25, the US meeting, sponsored by COMSOL, Inc., will take place in Cambridge, MA. Interest in this meeting among researchers, engineers, and academics is exceeding original expectations, so the organizers have expanded the scope of the conference so that it now includes 115 user presentations, 10 keynote speeches, and 17 hands-on minicourses.

The conference is part of a worldwide tour that will attract thousands of technical professionals specializing in scientific computations where modeling plays an important part. Each meeting provides a cross-disciplinary forum for adopting breakthrough multiphysics modeling techniques in academia, governmental labs, and commercial organizations. A hand-picked program committee is reviewing all submissions to ensure that results presented at the conference have the highest quality and relevance to the multiphysics user community.

The conference covers applications in biotechnology, fuel cells, microelectromechanical systems (MEMS), nanotechnology, petroleum engineering, and much more. Among the keynote speakers are:

 

• MEMS expert Dr. Amy Duwel from Draper Labs. She recently was named one of the "Top 10 Women to Watch" by the trade publication Mass High Tech.
• Dr. David S. Burnett of the Naval Surface Warfare Center. He holds 25 patents in the fields of computational acoustics and electromagnetism.
• Dr. h.c. Svante Littmarck, President and CEO of COMSOL Inc, who will present a visionary talk entitled "The Multiphysics Mission."

The North American meeting takes place at the Hyatt Regency Cambridge Hotel in Cambridge, MA, on October 23-25. Other FEMLAB Conferences are being held in the following major cities during the months of October and November: Stockholm, Oslo, Birmingham (UK), Frankfurt, and Paris.
