COMSOL Desktop™

COMSOL Desktop™

Design analysis of a high-voltage generator using the all-new COMSOL Desktop™ in COMSOL Multiphysics version 4. The entire model set up – from geometry creation to visualization of the simulation results – is carried out from the Model Builder (left panel) providing great insight and full control of all aspects of the design process. Original model courtesy of COMET AG (Flamatt, Switzerland).

Capture the Concept™ Using the Model Builder

Capture the Concept™ Using the Model Builder

A thermal actuator design is captured step-by-step in the COMSOL Multiphysics Model Builder with a complete record of all operations. The multi-plot feature was used to create this image showing the temperature distribution on the surface in combination with the deformation and a close-up of the mesh near the anchors (inset).

Streamlining the Simulation Process

Streamlining the Simulation Process

The Model Builder makes it easy to set up and run a simulation. All steps in the modeling process are recorded to create sequences of features. This provides direct access to model settings. Operations in sequences can be modified and re-run anytime during the design process. The image shows a fluid flow and heat transfer simulation of a heat sink.

LiveLink™ for PTC Pro/ENGINEER®

LiveLink™ for PTC Pro/ENGINEER®

COMSOL's new LiveLink™ for PTC Pro/ENGINEER® establishes associativity between the two geometry representations so that any change to a feature in the CAD model automatically updates the COMSOL geometry. This enables multiphysics simulations involving parametric sweeps and design optimization directly within Pro/ENGINEER. Original model courtesy of Metelli (Cologne, Italy).

Compute Clusters

Compute Clusters

This example illustrates a mini compute cluster connected by a Gigabit Ethernet network solving for the microwave electromagnetic field in an H-Bend waveguide. The simulation sweeps more than 100 different frequencies distributed over the cluster nodes.

Acoustics in Car Interior

Acoustics in Car Interior

COMSOL Multiphysics version 4 lets users run parametric design studies directly from Model Builder. Solid operations are associative and allow for multi-parameter sweeps over any group of geometry dimensions. This image shows the simulation results from a car interior frequency sweep with the pressure level isosurfaces in color. The simulation used the COMSOL Acoustics Module.

Planar Transformer

Planar Transformer

This simulation of a planar transformer used the RF Module's ECAD file import of ODB++ electronic circuit design format.

Fast Temperature Sensor

Fast Temperature Sensor

This image shows the design of a fast-reading temperature sensor in COMSOL Multiphysics version 4. The temperature distribution over the entire of the sensor and on the sensing element inside the cap are shown. Model courtesy of Martin Sás, Continental Corporation(R), Frenstat, Czech Republic.

Wind Load on Solar Panels

Wind Load on Solar Panels

Coupled physical effects are constantly present in green energy simulations. Here, the COMSOL Multiphysics fluid-structure interaction interface has been used to calculate a simulation of a Santa Ana wind load on a solar panel.

Plate Reactor

Plate Reactor

This COMSOL Multiphysics version 4 simulation of a plate reactor shows how the COMSOL Desktop enables a user to control the entire modeling process. This model includes the coupling of diffusion, fluid flow, and heat transfer. The surface plot shows the species concentration.
